GroupSites - How Groups Make Things Happen
http://www.groupsite.com/

Some call it Web 2.0, others call it the social web. They call it a change. Blogs, social networks, wiki's and other recent innovations have transformed the Web and how many of us use it. While these new innovations are clearly powerful, they don't believe that they've adequately empowered people within groups to come together and collectively make things happen. So they have made it their mission to introduce the Groupsite, a new kind of website. Groupsites embody the Web's evolution into a social/collaborative medium by bringing together the most useful features of traditional websites, discussion forums, listservs, blogs, collaboration software and social networks. With Groupsites, people from a wide range of professional and social groups within companies, communities, non-profits, families and more are now able to instantly and easily communicate, share, network. Best of all, basic Groupsites are free to create and can be setup to be public, completely private and secure, or somewhere in between. International Journal of Transdisciplinary Research (IJTR)
http://www.ijtr.org/Default.htm

The journal is concerned with extending and integrating the study of economics with disciplines within the natural and social sciences, as well as the humanities. International Journal of Transdisciplinary Research (IJTR) is a journal where alternative frameworks can be disseminated and argued to develop a unifying vision of an economic paradigm that realistically portrays economic systems as a whole. They feel that there needs to be a revolution in the field of economics, to develop new approaches to real world problems. Because economics is intertwined in almost every field of research, they are looking for transdisciplinary research. If science wishes to contribute to solving these real world issues, transdisciplinary collaboration and communication becomes necessary. Therefore, IJTR is a platform for the practice of transdisciplinary research. As such, IJTR is a journal for article submissions on epistemological issues such as:

(1) Sustainability,
(2) Social Multicriteria Evaluations,
(3) Ecological Economics and the Biophysical Foundations of Economics,
(4) Systems Research, and
(5) Complexity and Post Normal Science.

If your research does not fall into these broad categories, then IJTR is not the place to submit your article. The journal is for the constructive argument and the development of alternative ways to govern sustainability. Furthermore, we seek research articles from colleagues in fields other than economics on how economic systems really work.

China-America Digital Academic Library (CADAL)
http://www.cadal.cn/enc/

The objective of this [2004 - ed.] project is to create a free-to-read, searchable collection of one million books, primarily in the English language, available to everyone over the Internet. This task is accomplished by scanning the books and indexing their full text. The text file is created, where possible, through optical character recognition. The result will be a unique resource accessible to anyone in the world 24x7x365, without regard to nationality or socioeconomic background. Typical large high-school libraries house fewer than 30,000 volumes. One million volumes is the approximate size of the combined libraries at Carnegie Mellon University. The total number of different titles indexed in OCLC's WorldCat is about 48 million. One million books, therefore, is more than the holdings of any high-school, equivalent to the library at a substantial university and a significant fraction of all available books. [...] National Science Foundation is providing funding for Scanners, Computers, Servers, and Software. These resources from NSF are augmented by almost twenty to one since China and India will be providing the necessary manpower (2,000 man years each, over a four year period)." Personality and Mental Health
http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/114298425/home

At the cusp of a rapid expansion, clinically, academically, legally and politically, the field of personality and mental health is an emerging area of research that currently covers three distinct literatures: DSM-IV/ICD-10 defined personality disorders, psychopathy and offending behaviour. Providing leadership in this new, emerging field, Personality and Mental Health: Multidisciplinary Studies from Personality Dysfunction to Criminal Behaviour will define more clearly, not merely react to, the field and disciplines involved in research into personality and mental health and for the first time unite the three literatures. Through its multi-disciplinary and service orientated approach, Personality and Mental Health will provide an authoritative source of information for researchers, practitioners and policy makers working in the field of personality and mental health. The Journal seeks to encourage exchange amongst individuals and groups working in the field, as well as debate amongst opinion formers and policy makers in this high profile area. It will also seek to encourage innovation and provide a platform for the publication of new approaches to treatment, assessment and service delivery. The journal will publish:

* a clinical case in each issue, with invited commentary by, for example, lawyers, ethicists, service users etc.
* reviews and original research articles including rapid communications
* a correspondence section as the journal becomes established
* a limited book review section, expanding as demand dictates

The scope of the Journal will encompass the following:

* Service evaluation and development: including the evaluation of current treatment and assessment protocols, classification and aetiology, the development and trialling of innovative interventions including psychological, psychiatric, pharmacological, social care and self-management and the review and development of delivery models and services.
* Organisational evaluation and development: including assessment of the organisational capacity of service units and the working practices of staff, the impact of different organisational strategies on the type, level and quality of services delivered.
* Law, policy and ethics: including review and critical analysis of new criminal justice, social care and Human Rights legislation and its application to people with personality disorders and the analysis of policy developments.
* Research methodology, research practice and dissemination: including the development of innovative methodologies and research practices targeting hard to reach and over-researched groups and innovative as well as standard methods of dissemination.
* Education and training: including professional, service user and carer education and training and wider curriculum development.

PostRank - Ranking Any Kind of Online Content
http://www.postrank.com/

PostRank is a scoring system developed by AideRSS to rank any kind of online content, such as RSS feed items, blog posts, articles, or news stories. PostRank is based on social engagement, which refers to how interesting or relevant people have found an item or category to be. Examples of engagement include writing a blog post in response to someone else, bookmarking an article, leaving a comment on a blog, or clicking a link to read a news item. PostRank measures engagement by analyzing the types and frequency of an audience's interaction with online content. An item's PostRank score represents how interesting and relevant people have found it to be. The more interesting or relevant an item is, the more work they will do to share or respond to that item so interactions that require more effort are weighted higher. PostRank scoring is based on analysis of the "5 Cs" of engagement: creating, critiquing, chatting, collecting, and clicking. By collecting interaction engagement_metrics in these categories the overall engagement score is calculated and the PostRank value is determined.

Creating: The strongest form of engagement is demonstrated by using an item as inspiration to create your own, for example, writing your own blog post that responds to or refutes someone else's blog post. Creation requires the most thought and investment of time, actively generates conversation, and therefore indicates the highest level of engagement

Critiquing: Reading a blog post and then leaving a comment requires an investment of time, thought and effort (or sometimes just typing and name-calling...), and is a form of conversation. However, it requires less effort than writing a whole blog post. So while it is an important action, it does not indicate as much engagement as Creating.

Chatting: Sharing and discussing information can often be started with one click, so it doesn't require a major investment of effort. However, a desire to share is a strong indication of relevance, and the act of sharing and its ensuing discussion are acts of conversation. Use of social media applications like Twitter encourage both the sharing of information and the resulting conversations. As a result, social media "chatting" indicates a good level of engagement.

Collecting: Bookmarking or submitting items to social sites also tend to be "one-click" actions. They are intentional acts of archiving and sharing, but don't require much time or effort. However, the sharing that occurs often sparks conversations, so Collecting does demonstrate some engagement.

Clicking: Activities like clicks and page views indicate lower engagement because they're passive interactions. Clicking a link to read a blog post doesn't require much work, and you're not giving anything back except your reading time. It is an intentional act, however, and thus indicates a mild level of interest and engagement. Which may grow after the item is read.

Ecohydrology
http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/114209870/home

Ecohydrology is an international journal publishing original scientific and review papers that aim to improve understanding of processes at the interface between ecology and hydrology and associated applications related to environmental management. Ecohydrology seeks to increase interdisciplinary insights by placing particular emphasis on interactions and associated feedbacks in both space and time between ecological systems and the hydrological cycle. Research contributions are solicited from disciplines focusing on the physical, ecological, biological, biogeochemical, geomorphological, drainage basin, mathematical and methodological aspects of ecohydrology. Research in both terrestrial and aquatic systems is of interest provided it explicitly links ecological systems and the hydrologic cycle; research such as aquatic ecological, channel engineering, or ecological or hydrological modelling is less appropriate for the journal unless it specifically addresses the criteria above. Manuscripts describing individual case studies are of interest in cases where broader insights are discussed beyond site and species-specific results. The Journal also publishes research on new instrumentation and techniques if they describe truly new and significant advances in methodology that can be broadly applied to the ecohydrological understanding and management of environmental systems. Occasional special issues will be published that cover themes emergent from conferences, ecological and hydrological science societies and key research topics. IJCE promotes and fosters scholarly discussion on the emerging subject of collaborative decision making in the engineering discipline. Collaborative engineering studies the interactive process of engineering collaboration, whereby multiple interested stakeholders resolve conflicts, bargain for individual or collective advantages, agree upon courses of action, and/or attempt to craft joint outcomes which serve their mutual interests. The IJCE emphasis is on the implications that collaborative consensus-building activities have on both the efficiency of technical teams and the quality of their results. This perspective acknowledges the complexity of collaborative engineering as an interface between decision and negotiation processes as well as in the assimilation of social and technical aspects of engineering activities operating in parallel over different time-space and discipline scales.

Kiva is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs around the globe. The people you see on Kiva's site are real individuals in need of funding - not marketing material. When you browse entrepreneurs' profiles on the site, choose someone to lend to, and then make a loan, you are helping a real person make great strides towards economic independence and improve life for themselves, their family, and their community. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates and track repayments. Then, when you get your loan money back, you can relend to someone else in need. UbuWeb - Repository for Visual, Concrete and Sound Poetry
http://www.ubu.com/

UbuWeb was founded in November of 1996, initially as a repository for visual, concrete and, later, sound poetry. Over the years, UbuWeb has embraced all forms of the avant-garde and beyond. Its parameters continue to expand in all directions. UbuWeb posts much of its content without permission; they rip out-of-print LPs into sound files; they scan as many old books as they can get their hands on; they post essays as fast as they can OCR them. UbuWeb is an unlimited resource with unlimited space to fill. It is in this way that the site has grown to encompass hundreds of artists, hundreds of gigabytes of sound files, books, texts and videos. They have won many prestigious internet awards and are acknowledged web-wide as the definitive source for Visual, Concrete + Sound Poetry. Sports Technology
http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/117899685/home

Sports Technology is a unique source of information on all aspects of sports technology. This international journal aims to establish stronger links between industrial and academic research, and enhance communication between athletes, coaches, engineers, scientists, biomechanists, managers and administrators involved with sports and sports technology. Design and development of sports products and infrastructure require close collaboration between all stakeholders, as well as good understanding of both life and sports sciences, principles of economy and engineering. Therefore it is only natural that a journal focusing on sports technology is inter-and transdisciplinary as well as holistic in its approach. Sports Technology publishes articles that are classified either as scientific research articles (focusing on the scientific aspects of sports technology research) or technical research and development articles (focusing on the commercial product design and development aspects). Each issue of the journal contains an attractive mix of articles (invited reviews, original peer-reviewed scientific articles and technical R&D articles, experts opinions, book reviews, news from major events and
industry) and generous use of color. In particular, major events are highlighted, with rapid publication of results related to investigations during these events (such as from Olympic Games and World Championships).
