Wednesday, June 30, 2010 ![]() Cohuman - Share and Track Tasks with Coworkers and Friends http://cohuman.com/ Imagine a social network for your tasks. When you share tasks with coworkers and friends, Cohuman is aware of how all your tasks are related. That’s what Cohuman is – a Task Network. In the same way you keep track of your colleagues and friends via services like Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter, they empower you to get status updates on all the tasks you’re connected to. Cohuman is a coordination solution, not a collaboration solution. There’s a difference. Collaboration seeks to share knowledge, or achieve consensus - many people holding hands. Email threads, project management tools, wikis and the like allow us to collaborate and be on the same page - literally. But they have failed us spectacularly when it comes to identifying our priorities or remembering what we’ve asked others to do. Coordination is the defining characteristic of being organized. Coordination is about knowing who needs to do what when, and having insight into the status of things. Cohuman seeks to coordinate your tasks and the tasks of those around you so that everyone knows precisely what they need to do. That’s what they are aiming for. A solution that will allow you to: 1) See everything you need to do in one place and prioritize your day; 2) Share tasks with others and follow their status; 3) Reduce the amount of emails you receive and send to others; and 4) Trust you are not forgetting to do anything. SCORE draws on the OU's experience from a range of successful OER projects, including OpenLearn which by April 2008 had published 5,400 learning hours of course content in the LearningSpace and 8100 hours in LabSpace (an area allowing easy remixing, translation and redeposit by registered users). The OER published covers a full range of Open University subject areas from introductory to postgraduate level. All of this content is available for reuse by learners and teachers under an open license. The SCORE project will extend this collection, reflecting sector priorities in its selection of new material and support individuals, projects and institurtions in publishing into LabSpace and dissemination across other collections and repositories. SCORE aims to: •disseminate skills for populating and maintaining open content sites; •build evidence of the impact of open educational resources in higher education •support the establishment of a legal framework to address IP/rights management issues; •support the creation of common standards for the design of content and sites, facilitating exchange of materials across the sector; •deepen sector-wide understanding of the needs and behaviours of users of open content material, and disseminate national and international research findings; •facilitate engagement of UK OER activities within international developments, particularly the Open Courseware Consortium and the European MORIL Project. Topsy doesn’t think the Internet is a collection of documents. Or even a web of documents. Topsy sees the Internet as a stream of conversations. Topsy treats people differently from the webpages they create and the things they say. And Topsy sees that people in every community are connected in a web of relationships, where each person influences other people to read, talk and think about things. When you search for something on Topsy, such as “spaceX“, it finds snippets of conversations that match what you’re looking for. Topsy results are the things people link to, when they’re talking about your search terms. Topsy ranks results based on how well they match your search terms, and the influence of the people talking about them. Because of how Topsy works, Topsy can do things other search engines don’t usually do. Topsy results are fresh, because they’re based on what you’re talking about right now. Or this week. Or the past month. Topsy has “trackback” pages for everything in its index, showing what everyone is saying about that thing. Conversations are about people, and Topsy has pages for every person it listens to – listing the things you’ve been talking about. The first index is based exclusively on Twitter statuses and the wonderful people who write them. They are a global group of people working on various projects which further this goal. They expect governance software to be adopted first in small communities, and then to spread outward with the potential to gradually replace many institutions of representative democracy with a new kind of social organization called collaborative governance. They conceive a world where every person, without exception, is able to substantively participate in any governance structure in which they have an interest. They envision governance which is not only more open, free, and democratic; but also which is more effective and less fallible than pre-Internet forms of governance.
