Thursday, June 30, 2011 Trapit - Discovering the Best Content On All Your Interests http://trap.it/ Trapit finds the stuff you don’t want to miss. They scour the web on your behalf, 24/7, organizing the best, most relevant content into individual topic-based “traps” for easy consumption. Traps can be based on current affairs or trending topics, personal interests or projects, companies or people, teams, towns, events and more. Maybe it's a lifelong passion - your favorite hobby or sports team - or a hot issue of the day, whether that's the World Series, the political scandal du jour or the newest Harry Potter flick. Trapit brings the web to you. Trap any topic with a simple click, and watch the content roll in. You can leverage any of our curated traps, or start your own. Trapit also adapts with each use. Think of it like Pandora for content - Trapit gets to know you better over time, and keeps up as your interests evolve. Trapit delivers news, blogs posts, reviews, videos and much more - all hand-picked for you. The web is an echo chamber. You see the same articles and videos over, and over again. Your individual preferences are overlooked by sites and services that take a one-size-fits-all approach, and they privilege the same hand-full of overhyped articles and videos above all else. It’s much too hard to find the good stuff. Trapit prioritizes the web for you, based on you – a perfect match of content from over 50,000 sources to your personal, unique interests. Our project uses genomic biology to fuse this dichotomy, into a new paradigm of the environment ("nurture") impacts an inherited genome ("nature") by regulating gene expression during an animal's lifetime. BeeSpace is analyzing social behavior on an unprecedented scale using Apis mellifera, the Western honey bee,as the model organism. The Biology Research is dissecting the relative contributions of nature and nurture in the societal roles that worker bees take on during their lifetimes. Using whole genome microarrays on honey bee brains, we record gene expression for bees performing a particular role. In 30 unique experiments focusing on foraging, maturation, and aggression, they have recorded gene expression for over 1000 honeybees using 2000 microarrays. BeeSpace is developing unique software for functional analysis of gene expression. The Informatics Research is developing an interactive environment, where biologists can create customized spaces from literature to analyze concepts describing gene function. BeeSpace Navigator supports concept navigation for hypothesis development and testing. This research will enable all scientists who study bee genes to live on the frontier of integrative biology, where biotechnology enables routine expression analysis and bioinformatics enables functional analysis unconstrained by pre-existing categories.
