Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI)
http://www.cspinet.org/

Since 1971 The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has been a strong advocate for nutrition and health, food safety, alcohol policy, and sound science. Its award-winning newsletter, Nutrition Action Healthletter, is the largest-circulation health newsletter in North America, providing reliable information on nutrition and health. Because of CSPI’s leadership in the areas of nutrition, food safety, and other issues: a) A new federal law was enacted that sets standards for health claims on food labels and provides full and clear nutrition information on nearly all packaged foods, b) Millions of Americans changed their food choices at popular restaurants thanks to CSPI's widely publicized studies on the nutritional value of restaurant meals. Thousands of restaurants have added healthier options to their menus, c) Major fast-food chains have stopped frying with beef fat and many have introduced more healthful foods, and d) Scores of deceptive ads by companies such as McDonald's, Kraft, and Campbell Soup have been stopped. With support from 900,000 members, CSPI is vigorously pursuing its mission in the new century. This will be added to Healthcare Resources 2005 Internet MiniGuide.
