Exploring Online Research Methods in a Virtual Training Environment is an ESRC funded project running from May 2004 to July 2006 under the [External Link - opens in a new window]Research Methods Training Programme. The project aims to enhance understanding of online research methods through the production and evaluation of a self-supporting online training package targeted at the social science community. Online research methods are computer-mediated methodological approaches to data collection which are facilitated in a 'virtual' environment. In simpler terms, online research methods are traditional methods of data collection adapted to use online. Therefore, research methods ranging from questionnaire surveys to participant observation have been adapted for online use through tools such as email, websites and various software packages. This has been added to the tools section of Research Resources Subject Tracerâ„¢ Information Blog.
