Poetry Archive

Poetry Archive
http://www.poetryarchive.org/

The Poetry Archive is the world's premier online collection of recordings of poets reading their work. You can enjoy listening here, free of charge, to the voices of contemporary English-language poets and of poets from the past. The Archive is growing all the time. The Poetry Archive exists to help make poetry accessible, relevant and enjoyable to a wide audience. It came into being as a result of a meeting, in a recording studio, between Andrew Motion, soon after he became U.K. Poet Laureate in 1999, and the recording producer, Richard Carrington. They agreed about how enjoyable and illuminating it is to hear poets reading their work and about how regrettable it was that, even in the recent past, many important poets had not been properly recorded. BuzzLogic
http://www.BuzzLogic.com/

Influence moves markets. It’s a basic tenet of marketing. But until now, it’s been impossible to understand influence -- and who wields it -- within specific conversations taking place in social media. BuzzLogic changes this dynamic by uniquely defining and measuring influence in social media, and by surfacing the key influencers who are shaping and defining markets, issues and reputations. Through the lens of influence, BuzzLogic provides a means for marketing and communications practitioners to engage with social media in order to manage their brands, reputations, products and customer relationships. As a result, the confusion that has characterized social media is replaced by clarity – marketers can make sense of the conversations they care about. And they can do something about them. At BuzzLogic, our mission is to apply the science of influence to the world of social media. This requires keen insight into dynamic conversational networks, a methodology premised on the idea that influence is in and of itself dynamic, and an ability to identify which participants in conversations are gaining or losing influence over time. National Library of Virtual Manipulatives (NLVM)
http://nlvm.usu.edu/en/nav/vlibrary.html

The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives (NLVM) is an NSF supported project that began in 1999 to develop a library of uniquely interactive, web-based virtual manipulatives or concept tutorials, mostly in the form of Java applets, for mathematics instruction (K-12 emphasis). The project includes dissemination and extensive internal and external evaluation. Learning and understanding mathematics, at every level, requires student engagement. Mathematics is not, as has been said, a spectator sport. Too much of current instruction fails to actively involve students. One way to address the problem is through the use of manipulatives, physical objects that help students visualize relationships and applications. We can now use computers to create virtual learning environments to address the same goals. There is a need for good computer-based mathematical manipulatives and interactive learning tools at elementary and middle school levels. The Utah State University team is building Java-based mathematical tools and editors that allow them to create exciting new approaches to interactive mathematical instruction. The use of Java as a programming language provides platform independence and web-based accessibility. The NLVM is a resource from which teachers may freely draw to enrich their mathematics classrooms. The materials are also of importance for the mathematical training of both in-service and pre-service teachers. The library is actively being extended and refined through projects including the eNLVM, a project to develop interactive online learning units for mathematics. Trippermap will then automatically search your photos at Flickr for location information and plot the photos on your own Trippermap, on your own website. It's as simple as tagging your photos with a city and country name! Trippermap also supports photos that have been geotagged or photos that have location data encoded in their EXIF properties. Trippermap now supports Flickr's new mapping tools so you can drag your photos onto the map at Flickr and have them show up on your Trippermap and then see them using Google Earth. Their Google Earth Geotagger now also updates your map at Flickr straight away so if you need more detailed maps while geotagging your photos check out our video tutorial. It only takes one click to geotag Flickr photos using Google Earth. This has been added to World Wide Web Reference Subject Tracer™ Information Blog.

phpThumb()

phpThumb() - The PHP Thumbnail Generator
http://phpthumb.sourceforge.net/

phpThumb() uses the GD library to create thumbnails from images (JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, etc) on the fly. The output size is configurable (can be larger or smaller than the source), and the source may be the entire image or only a portion of the original image. True color and resampling is used if GD v2.0+ is available, otherwise paletted-color and nearest-neighbour resizing is used. ImageMagick is used wherever possible for speed. Basic functionality is available even if GD functions are not installed (as long as ImageMagick is installed). One demo file uses portions of Javascript API by James Austin. TRIP Free Access Evidence-Based Medicine Database - Turning Research Into Practice
http://www.tripdatabase.com/index.html

TRIP Free Access Database is one of the Internet's leading resources for Evidence-Based Medicine. Allowing users to easily and rapidly identify the highest quality evidence from a wide range of sources. The TRIP Database began in 1997 as a result of the work of the founders (Jon Brassey and Dr Chris Price) in answering clinical questions. One of the remits of answering the clinical questions was to return them in a clinically relevant time frame. As well as being quick the clinical questions needed to be answered using the best available evidence. Therefore, to identify the best evidence involved moving from website to website in order to identify relevant material. If each site took 5 minutes to search and 12 websites were examined it added an hour to the search time. If all the content were searchable at one website it would significantly improve the search time. Initially, a manual search of each evidence-based site was undertaken with titles, URL and year of publication recorded in a spreadsheet. Shortly afterwards a chance conversation led to the spreadsheet being converted to a crude web-based search engine. Since then it has grown significantly in terms of ease of use, coverage and popularity. The aims of the TRIP Database have remained the same since 1997 - allow health professionals to easily find the highest-quality material available on the web. The TRIP Database is produced by TRIP Database Ltd (for more information on TRIP Database Ltd see below). The evolution of the TRIP Database has been guided by the desire to answer real clinical questions. TRIP Database Ltd’s involvement in clinical question answering (for more information see TRIP Knowledge Services) has shown the type of material that is useful in answering genuine questions health professionals have. More recently the site has been externally evaluated by a team from the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (www.cebm.net) led by Professor Paul Glasziou. The findings of this report have been very useful in this latest site upgrade. For approximately 4 years the TRIP Database became a subscription service which ended in September 2006. This allowed for a dramatic improvements in the site. However, it also significantly restricted use. This relative lack of use led to a degree of frustration (a great product being under-used) therefore a new business model was sought and found. The TRIP Database is now free access and truly a great resource to the Internet clinical research community! This has been added to Research Resources Subject Tracer™ Information Blog. This will be added to Healthcare Resources 2006 Internet MiniGuide. This has been added to Healthcare Resources Subject Tracer™ Information Blog.

Daikon Invariant Detector
http://pag.csail.mit.edu/daikon/

Daikon is an implementation of dynamic detection of likely invariants; that is, the Daikon invariant detector reports likely program invariants. An invariant is a property that holds at a certain point or points in a program; these are often seen in assert statements, documentation, and formal specifications. Invariants can be useful in program understanding and a host of other applications. Examples include “.field > abs(y)”; “y = 2*x+3”; “array a is sorted”; “for all list objects lst, lst.next.prev = lst”; “for all treenode objects n, n.left.value < null =""> p.content in myArray”; and many more. You can extend Daikon to add new properties (see Enhancing Daikon output). Dynamic invariant detection runs a program, observes the values that the program computes, and then reports properties that were true over the observed executions. Daikon can detect properties in C, C++, Java, Perl, and IOA programs; in spreadsheet files; and in other data sources. (Dynamic invariant detection is a machine learning technique that can be applied to arbitrary data.) It is easy to extend Daikon to other applications; as one example, an interface exists to the Java PathFinder model checker. Postgenomic - Life Science Blog Aggregator
http://www.postgenomic.com/

Postgenomic aggregates posts from life science blogs and then does useful and interesting things with that data. For example, it allows you to get an instant picture of which web sites are being heavily linked to by researchers in the medical sciences, or which papers are being cited or reviewed most often by bioinformaticians, or which buzzwords are being used the most frequently by evolutionary biologists. It's sort of like a hot papers meeting with the entire biomed blogging community. Postgenomic's primary purpose is to act as a central repository for reviews of scientific papers and for conference reports. You can help with this by adding some very simple semantic markup to your blog posts when you write a review of a paper. In this context a "review" isn't necessarily a particularly long or critical assessment of the paper (though it could be): it's simply any information that other researchers might find useful. eEarth (eE)
http://www.copernicus.org/EGU/ee/ee.html

eEarth (eE) uses an open access interactive format to publish short, topical papers in all disciplines of the Earth Sciences. The length of papers is limited to four journal pages, which corresponds to about 3000 words, a maximum of 30 references and no more than 5 figures and tables. Its scope ranges from processes in the deep interior of the Earth and the terrestrial planets; magmatism, metamorphism and volcanism; the creation, deformation and destruction of lithosphere; fluids, fluxes, and reservoirs of mineral and energy resources; surface processes such as erosion, transport, deposition of sediments and resulting geomorphology; and the response of the Earth to climate change. The length of papers is limited to four journal pages. eE uses the innovative two-stage publication process already established with success by other EGU journals. The procedure involves a scientific discussion forum and exploits the full potential of the Internet to:

* foster scientific discussion
* enhance the effectiveness and transparency of scientific qualty assurance;
* enable rapid publication;
* make scientific publications freely accessible.

In the first stage, papers that pass a rapid access-review by one of the editors are immediately published on the eEarth Discussions (eED) website. They are then subject to interactive public discussion, during which the referees¹ comments (anonymous or attributed), additional short comments by other members of the scientific community (attributed) and the authors replies are also published in eED. In the second stage, the peer-review process is completed and, if accepted, the final revised papers are published in eE. To ensure publication precedence for authors, and to provide a lasting record of scientific discussion, eED and eE are both ISSN-registered, permanently archived and fully citable.

TrackMeNot
http://mrl.nyu.edu/~dhowe/TrackMeNot/

TrackMeNot is a browser extension that protects web-searchers against surveillance and data-profiling. It does so not by means of concealment or encryption (i.e. covering one's trail), but instead, paradoxically, by the opposite strategy: noise and obfuscation. With TrackMeNot, actual web searches, lost in a cloud of false leads, are essentially hidden in plain view. User-installed TrackMeNot works with the Firefox Browser and popular search engines, e.g. AOL, Yahoo!, Google, and MSN. This has been added to Privacy Resources Subject Tracer™ Information Blog.

ThisNext

ThisNext - Shopcasting Network
http://www.thisnext.com/

ThisNext is a shopcasting network where you can recommend, share and discover great products. ThisNext believes that better buying means better living. Great products can help us do, be and experience the things that make us happy. Our goal is to help people discover great and deeply gratifying products. Every product on ThisNext is picked by the ThisNext community (That means you!). You can organize your picks into product playlists we call shopcasts. Great shopcast lists can be about activities (like climbing or cooking) or things (like fashion or food). They can even be about lifestyles (like being green). Shopcast lists and picks are tagged and searchable on ThisNext for easy discovery by other people. When you make a shopcast list, you are letting the world know what you think is great and worth spending hard-earned money to buy. You are answering the question "What do you use?" for people who share your interests and POV. People who like your taste can then find and track your personal shopcasts or they can follow the collective wisdom of crowds to discover what the community recommends. Universal Packing List

Universal Packing List (UPL)

The program generating your packing list is doing some of the decisions for you from knowing what kind of trip you are doing. No scuba diving? Leave the snorkel behind! Never warmer than +10 centigrade? Leave your shorts behind! But please make yourself a service and experiment a bit with the "List length" setting! It has these choices: a) All items, b) Most items, c) Just normal items, d) No unnecessary items, and e) Just critical items. "All items" will give you everything, including Hammock, Ice ax and Underwater scooter. The extreme at the other end, "Just critical items", will give you Passport, Credit Card, and not much else. The choices in between gives you something in between. This has been added to the tools section of Research Resources Subject Tracer™ Information Blog.
