Since its inception, the journal has made a significant contribution to the revival of genetics in the former Soviet Union. The journal publishes reviews and experimental papers in the areas of theoretical and applied genetics. It presents fundamental research on genetic processes at the molecular, cell, organism, and population levels. Special attention is paid to the most topical areas in modern genetics dealing with global concerns: the conservation and rational management of genetic resources and the evaluation, prediction, and prevention of the negative effects of environmental pollution. The main emphasis of this journal will be to present a forum for articles that may not be appropriate for other established genetics journals since they may be based on datasets in which a statistically random sample cannot be guaranteed (i.e. surname studies). Articles on individual surname studies are welcomed if they illustrate an unusual success story, present a new method of analysis, or would otherwise be of general interest to the genealogical community. Other topics might include insights into mutation rates, geographic patterns in genetic data, information that help to characterize haplogroups, and studies involving mtDNA. These topics include media uses, processes, and effects. Such research is already well represented in mainstream journals in psychology and communication, but its publication is dispersed across many sources. Therefore, scholars working on common issues and problems in various disciplines often cannot fully utilize the contributions of kindred spirits in cognate disciplines. By providing a high-quality, common publication outlet for psychologists, human developmental specialists, communication researchers, and other scholars who are interested in the psychological antecedents and consequences of communicating via mass media (television), telecommunications media (computer networks), and personal media (multimedia), potentially fertile cross-disciplinary work can flourish. Although most of the published articles will report original empirical research that bridges mediated communication and psychology, state-of-the-art reviews and meta-analyses that provide a major synthesis of primary research findings in a pivotal area will be considered. Manuscripts will be judged by the degree to which they make a major theoretical contribution and offer a substantial advancement to the body of knowledge about the uses, processes, or effects of the media. posted by Marcus Zillman | 4:16 AM MyPictr - Free Picture Resizing for Your Social Network http://mypictr.com/ mypictr provides a free picture resizing service, which allows you to create a custom profile avatar for your favorite social network. They empower you to verifiably extend your true identity across social networks and blogs, essentially creating an ad-hoc social network out of everything you join. They use cryptographically verified links to map waypoints on a "3D Social Network" or a "Social Network of Social Networks" on top of your existing web identities- helping users link together various online personalities and contacts across media and networks. Their vision is helping you connect your Email Addresses, Instant Messenger applications ( AOL IM, ICQ, Gmail, MSN, Yahoo ), personal blogs ( your own domain or hosted services ), and social networking profiles ( flickr, livejournal, friendster, myspace, etc )- Securely, Openly and Verifiably, so it is easier for you to find your friends, and communicate with them however you wish. FindMeOn isn't a new 'Social Network' in the traditional sense-- you won't be using it to message people, join groups, or share photos-- you'll still use the networks you already know and love to do all of that. FindMeOn is just here to help you navigate those existing social networks easier-- think of us as a bridge connecting your different accounts. They think people should be able to use whichever online services they want. They help you link together and display your accounts in a convenient and organized manner by displaying simple 'web badges' on your sites that serve a dual purpose: they both verify your ownership of that account, and they tie into your other internet identity accounts. The name "Diigo" is an abbreviation for "Digest of Internet Information, Groups and Other stuff." Diigo (dee'go) is about "Social Annotation". By combining social bookmarking, clippings, in situ annotation, tagging, full-text search, easy sharing and interactions, Diigo offers a powerful personal tool and a rich social platform for knowledge users, and in the process, turns the entire web into a writable, participatory and interactive media. The social annotation service introduced by Diigo allows users to add highlights and sticky notes, in situ, on any web page they read. Imagine a giant transparency overlaying on top of all the web pages. Users can write on the transparency as they wish, as private notes or public comments. And they can read public comments on the transparency left by other readers of the same page, and hear their "two cents" and interact with them.
